Beye vs Microsoft Copilot: Which Fits Your Business Data?
Already modeled in Power BI, or still sitting in the systems you run on?
Microsoft Copilot can answer from your Power BI reports and semantic models, in Power BI and in Microsoft 365, with Fabric around it. If your data already lives in well-prepared models, that is a strong place to start. Beye is a boutique enterprise agentic stack for when it does not yet: a data fabric on your operational systems, answers that show their query, sandboxed Python, and reusable business tools with a shared history. Automated agents are coming soon on Beye.
This page covers Microsoft Copilot for business data: Copilot in Power BI, the Fabric IQ plugin in Microsoft 365 Copilot Cowork, and the Microsoft Fabric and Copilot Studio features they build on. It does not review Copilot in Word, Outlook or Teams, or GitHub Copilot. Several Microsoft experiences are in preview; we say so where it matters.
Big fan of Power BI. Less of a fan of waiting for the model. 😉
001 / Fit
Which enterprise agentic stack fits your team?
Consider Beye when
- The data you need is still in operational systems such as an AS/400, SQL Server or a WMS, and you want it connected and kept current without first finishing a warehouse or semantic-model project. Sources: Beye Fabric, tools, collective history and agents
- Business teams need to see how an answer was produced, with the query, steps and result shown beside it. Sources: Beye Fabric, tools, collective history and agents
- You want people to turn logic into reusable tools with a form, run them again with new inputs, and look back at revisions and past runs in the same workspace. Sources: Beye Fabric, tools, collective history and agents
Trade-off. Automated agents, including sending email, are coming soon on Beye, not available today. Connector coverage is not exhaustive, and custom legacy sources can need additional integration work. Sources: Beye Fabric, tools, collective history and agents
Consider Microsoft Copilot when
- Your data is already modeled in Power BI and you have the licensing: paid Fabric (F2 or higher) or Power BI Premium (P1 or higher) capacity for Copilot in Power BI, or Microsoft 365 Copilot with Cowork billing for Cowork. Sources: Copilot for Power BI overview: requirements, data preparation and answers,Fabric IQ in Copilot Cowork: capabilities, limitations and prerequisites
- You want data answers inside Microsoft 365: Copilot Cowork can ground a chat in a Power BI report, then draft an email, write a document or schedule a review from the answer. Sources: Fabric IQ in Copilot Cowork: capabilities, limitations and prerequisites
- You have a data team building on Fabric that wants mirroring, notebooks, reusable Python functions and Copilot Studio agents under one Microsoft tenant, with Purview governance. Sources: What is Mirroring in Fabric?,Fabric user data functions overview,Fabric data agent concepts,Copilot Studio event triggers: autonomous agents and billing
Trade-off. Microsoft says Copilot needs a prepared semantic model to answer reliably; without it, answers can be generic or inaccurate. Someone has to build and maintain that model. Sources: Copilot for Power BI overview: requirements, data preparation and answers
002 / Matrix
Data fabric, analytics and tools at a glance
Approaches, not scores. Microsoft Copilot entries describe what its public material says; Beye has not tested them.
Every cell has two labels. Capability says what exists. Evidence says where the claim comes from. The same standards apply to both vendors, and each side is the publisher's own statement, not independent testing.
Capability
- Available In the product today, as stated by that product's publisher.
- Depends on setup Exists, but depends on the source, configuration or scope.
- Coming soon Announced as forthcoming. Not available today.
- Not verified The public sources we reviewed do not settle it. This is not a "No".
Evidence
- Beye reported Beye's own statement about its product. Not independent testing.
- Vendor documented The vendor's public material about its own product. Beye has not tested it.
- Sources inconclusive No public source we reviewed settles it.

Choose Beye if
your data still lives in operational systems rather than prepared Power BI models, and you want one workspace that keeps it current, shows the work behind each answer and turns logic into reusable tools with a history of changes and runs, starting with what is available today while automated agents are coming soon. Sources: Beye Fabric, tools, collective history and agents

Questions to ask both vendors
- Which of our source systems are covered today, how often will the data update, and what setup or services are needed to connect them?
- Who builds and maintains the model or fabric our questions run against, and how long until the first answer runs on our live data?
- Can you answer one of our questions on our own data in a live session, and show the query or steps behind the answer?
- What licenses, capacity and usage-based charges does this need for the people who will use it, and what happens to cost as usage grows?
- Which features we are relying on are generally available, and which are in preview or coming soon?
- Who will we work with after signing, how do we reach the product team, and who owns an escalation?
